The Eastern Illinois University women's basketball team defeated the University of Evansville 77-75 on Wednesday night. Eastern Illinois University struggled early in the game, but rebounded in the fourth quarter. Freshman forward Neva Thomas scored 24 points, while freshman forward Maggie Hartwig had 11 rebounds and 10 points, the first double-double of her collegiate career.

Both teams struggled early in the game as Eastern Illinois University led 10-6 at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, Eastern Illinois took a 28-26 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Eastern Illinois began to pull away, taking a 50-43 lead in the third quarter. However, Eastern Illinois University Evansville rallied in the fourth quarter to take a 75-73 lead. Eastern Illinois hit free throws late in the game to seal the 77-75 victory.

Thomas was the scoring leader for Eastern Illinois University and Hartwig was the rebounding leader. Eastern Illinois will travel to Lansing, Michigan to challenge Michigan State on Sunday afternoon.
