Illica reaches D4 development stage, marking the beginning of Goliath's productization journey

Ilika has achieved an important milestone in the development of its Goliath solid-state battery technology, marking the beginning of its journey to productization. The company is on track to deliver the first trial run prototypes in 2024.

Ilika Plc (LON:IKA), a pioneer in solid state battery technology, has announced the completion of its D4 development phase, a major milestone in the development of its Goliath solid state battery technology.D4 marks the successful completion of the design freeze phase of the P1 prototype, which is an intermediate step in the company's journey towards achieving a minimum viable product (MVP) by 2025.

The P1 Goliath prototype is a solid-state flexible battery pack with an NMC cathode and silicon anode. It is designed to meet key performance parameters including energy density and power density, while demonstrating Ilica's progress toward lithium-ion energy parity by the end of this year. With the D4 dataset in hand, Ilika will now produce quad-stacked P1 samples for OEM testing.

Over the next six months, Ilika will produce and test bulk cells in flexible packs based on the D4 development points. These tests will further refine the P1 prototype before delivering fully characterized cells to up to 15 customers in 2024. Ilika is currently in discussions with its customer base, which consists primarily of automotive OEMs, Tier 1 automotive suppliers and consumer appliance companies.

Ilika's MVP roadmap work is ongoing, with a D8 development point scheduled for completion by the end of 2024, and MVP or P2 prototypes can be stacked up to 30 layers, opening up new licensing opportunities. For more detailed information on product curves and development points, see page 11 of the Company's Annual Report 2023.

Graeme Purdy, Ilika's CEO, commented, "Reaching the D4 development point is a significant milestone in our technology roadmap. It lays the foundation for our first prototype product trials, which we aim to share with our customer base in 2024. This achievement is a testament to the dedication and efficiency of the Ilika team in delivering reliable results to our customers within an ambitious timeframe.
